Projects

Panorama Monopoli

Panorama is a city wide art exhibition, and for its second edition ITALICS chooses the city of Monopoli.
The aim of the project, curated by Vincenzo de Bellis, is to bring art in the territory as a multi-site travelling exhibition. The itinerary comprehends ancient and contemporary art and architecture, accompanied with a schedule of events and special projects. More than 12.000 visitors ha admired the artwork of 60 artists in 16 different locations among the city.

A.B.O. Theatron. Art or Life

A.B.O. Theatron. Art or Life is an art catalogue documenting and expanding the huge retrospective of the museum Castello di Rivoli dedicated to one of the most important contemporary art historians, critics and curators, Achille Bonito Oliva.

Devoto Oli Junior

Devoto-Oli Junior is the bestseller Italian dictionary for children aged 8–13, published by Le Monnier.
The purpose was to make the dictionary an enjoyable and easy-to-use tool closer to the language of its young users. So we created a playful visual design and a meta-language made of letters, symbols and emoticons in full colour to improve its usability.
The typefaces used are Sole Serif by Cast Foundry and Cera by TypeMates.
Illustrations by Niceshit Studio.

“Le Chef-d’oeuvre inconnu”

“Le Chef-d’oeuvre inconnu” is the catalogue of the exhibition “Giulio Paolini ‘Le Chef-d’oeuvre inconnu’”, curated by Castello di Rivoli Chief curator Marcella Beccaria. The exhibition, that celebrates the artist’s eightieth birthday, is and original journey of sixty years of work of Giulio Paolini, one of the members of the Italian movement Arte Povera.

Not a monotoned typeface

When you take an organic alphabet and you force it into a typewriting system, you can have interesting compromises. Typewriter typefaces have to deal with the constrains of a width system that forces shapes into a specific space.

The concept is to explore what could happen when we deal with two different technical constrictions and to understand how to obtain several black and white textures, thanks to the fixed proportions of a monospaced typeface and the variation of widths for each style.

This is Combo

Combo is an Italian chain of hostels opened between Summer and Winter 2019 in Venice, Milan and Turin. Combo’s contemporary and cultural tone of voice speaks to everyone.
The playful brand identity is based on LFT Combo,
a custom display typeface reminding of the first video game consoles and with variations of shape
in the letter designs.

Dictionary of contemporay Italian

Devoto-Oli is one of the most important Italian dictionaries, published by Le Monnier. The aim of the project was to make the pages and the thousand of entries easy to consult, since the layout, for its own nature, is constant. The whole typography is now redesigned and the text is organised thanks to the informations hierarchy, the focused usage of the colour and symbols. The typefaces used are Sole Serif by Cast Foundry and Nitti Grotesk by Bold Monday.
